How do you select the "right" physician for a patient? As any referring physician will tell you, this is not a simple answer. From volume to outcomes, ratings to relationships, eligibility to availability, there is no shortage of considerations when trying to make the best match. Unfortunately, the inherent complexity in the referral decision-making process all-too-frequently leads us to fall short, both clinically and economically. In this session, hear Harvard economist Amitabh Chandra discuss the consequences of poor clinical matching and how optimizations in referrals processes can not only decrease costs, but save lives.
